MEET THE SPEAKERS

DOCTOR HERBALIST

Dr. Nicky Baillie

MBChB, FRNZCGP, Dip Herb Med, MNZAMH, Dip Int Psych (Hakomi)

 

Nicky is a registered GP and Medical Herbalist with a special interest in Mind Body Medicine. She is based in Auckland, New Zealand working in fulltime clinical practice. Nicky developed curiosity into holistic approaches early in her medical career, especially the ancient tradition of herbal medicine. Over the last 25 years she has gathered extensive clinical experience combining conventional medicine with herbal and nutritional medicine. Nicky has a special interest in supporting people with cancer, both during treatment, and longer term to support optimal health and wellbeing. She teaches and presents regularly on herbal medicine and is passionate about promoting practical, accessible and safe ways to incorporate herbal medicine into primary health care. 

 

Over the last 15 years she has also been part of a clinical team supporting people with intravenous vitamin C, particularly for immune and cancer support, and has published in peer reviewed journals on this topic. 

Nicky graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1992 and completed a Diploma in Herbal Medicine from the Waikato Centre for Herbal Studies in 1996. Nicky extended her studies in Mind Body Medicine in the United States in 2004. She completed a Diploma in Integrative Psychology (Hakomi) in 2008 and achieved certification as a Hakomi therapist in 2013. She has great respect for the wisdom of our bodies, and the innate impulse towards healing. She strives to empower people to make the changes needed for optimal health.

HERBALIST AUTHOR

Michael Thomsen

Michael Thomsen is herbalist and naturopath. Originally from Denmark, he completed studies in Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine in Sydney, graduating in 1986.

He has a Master of Science, Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, Swinburne University,  is currently a PhD scholar at Sydney University Medical School and has extensive industry experience. 

He is the original author of the popular Phytotherapy Desk Reference now in its fifth edition having sold 10,000 copies worldwide.

Michael specialises in integrative oncology supporting patients with lifestyle and dietary advice, nutritional and herbal medicines and hyperthermia via allied clinics as well as research in the field.

His company, Eusano Healthcare, has pioneered whole body and local hyperthermia in Australia, importing and distributing ARTG listed medical infrared and hyperthermia devices made in Germany.

Michael is currently director of L-Nutra Australia, supplier of ProLon Fasting Mimicking Diet developed by Prof Valter Longo.

MEETING CHAIR

Nigel Pollard

Nigel Pollard is a Biochemist with 34 years international experience in the medicine industry. Before retiring in 2019 he was 18 years the CEO of Flordis/SFI a natural medicine company operating in 55+ countries.

Since 2014 he has had been Chair of the Natural Health Science Foundation (NHSF), a New York Not For Profit dedicated to improving human health through providing independent, accurate and reliable information on specific products and thereby enabling informed choice.

The NHSF is independent of donors and special interests and only exists to deliver its vision and mission.
